Delete file that states File is used by another program/process or user in windows.
We get this error when the file or folder is already opened in any program or used by any internal process used by the system. Sometimes it is used by antivirus to scan but we don’t know which process is using these files.
To delete this type of files follow these steps:
Please wait sometime and try to delete that file because may be that file is used by program that have some issues or that is running in background for internal process.
If file states this error for long time, we can close that program forcefully and delete files using Windows Resource Monitor.
1- Press the Windows key on your keyboard, type resmon.exe and press Enter.
2- In the window that appears, click the CPU tab.
3- In the third bar from the top, you should see the label Associated Handles. Type the name of the file you’re trying to close into the Search Handles bar, and then click the search icon.
5- Locate the program that is using your file. Right-click the program using the file in question and select End Process.
locate the program then right click on the program and click on End Process
If you are not able to delete file by using above methods. Try to reboot your system in safe mode and delete the file.
